29.07.2015 - Barcelona to remain Mobile World Capital through 2023

GSMA has announced an agreement to extend its contract with Barcelona City Partners by another five years. This means that Barcelona remains Mobile World Capital until 2023 and host city to the GSMA Mobile World Congress. Barcelona City Partners comprises the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism; the Government of Catalonia; Barcelona local government, the Barcelona tourist board; Fira de Barcelona and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (BMWCF). “Our 2015 event marked the 10th year we’ve held Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and over that period of time, we’ve received tremendous support from all of our Mobile World Congress and Mobile World Capital Barcelona partners. We look forward to further building on our success together in the years ahead.” In 2015, the event attracted more than 2,000 exhibiting companies and more than 94,000 visitors from 200 countries. Preliminary independent economic analysis shows that Mobile World Congress 2015 contributed more than 436 million euros and almost 12,675 part-time jobs to the local economy. Mobile World Congress 2016 will take place from February 22 to 25, 2016 in Fira Gran Via. (ank)
