07.02.2014 - MCI expands through acquisition in Brazil

MCI is doubling its market share in Brazil with the acquisition of local organiser JZ Congressos, one of the biggest players in the country beneath the Sugarloaf Mountain. Under the terms of the takeover the previous executive director of JZ Congressos, Juarez Augusto de Carvalho Filho, will join MCI as Congress Director for Brazil. MCI Brazil, a joint venture with Grupo Alatur, has grown steadily in recent years, generating sales growth of 50% in the business year just ended, roughly twice as much as forecast. In the coming three years, too, revenues are scheduled to increase on a similar scale. For 2014 MCI Brazil expects turnover in the region of R$ 80 million (roughly € 24.7 m), approximately 40% of which will come from meetings, congresses and events. At present MCI Brazil manages 23 international congresses, a number it plans to treble in the next three years. (sos)
