Göttingen shows how it's done

Football fans in Lower Saxony will be spared the journey to one of the twelve cities hosting the World Cup. Fan festivals closer to home will be offering some lively entertainment.

Neither a World Cup venue nor a city, Göttingen deserves all our sympathy. But does that really matter? Lively football events are also being organised for fans outside the strictly controlled games in the official FIFA host cities. One of these is the Sartorius-WM-Village in Göttingen. A real treat for fans in this university town which, after all, is where the Mexican team will be staying. There just aren't enough tickets to satiate the hunger for football of the many fans in southern Lower Saxony and northern Hesse. So the Lokhalle venue in Göttingen decided to harness this enthusiasm for football in the region. It found several partners to help stage a football festival with public viewing. The main sponsor and eponym of the Sartorius-WM-Village is Sartorius AG, based in Göttingen. As a technological concern, the company usually focuses its sponsoring activities on science projects.
Besides the live broadcasts, the Lokhalle will also be hosting many other attractions for football fans. There will also be plenty to do for visitors who do not only want to watch football but want to get actively involved. The Village aims to offer a peaceful event for families and will be taking the necessary security precautionsAn advertising and PR strategy has been devised to ensure a well-filled venue and good atmosphere. This includes the website www.sartorius-wmvillage.de which provides comprehensive informationThe live broadcasts and fringe program will be advertised regionally on large hoardings and programmes on the forthcoming events will be distributed throughout the town. Media sponsorship means the events will be announced on local radio. Advertisements placed in the local press are also an important aspect of the communications concept.
