Knowledge in mega format

One of the great events at the Frankfurt Book Fair was the unveiling of the installation in the Agora outdoor area at the centre of the trade fair. The occasion was the 200th jubilee of the Brockhaus publishing house. The ceremony was accompanied by the live performance of a sprechoper (spoken opera). The concept for the event was devised by the Stuttgart agency Milla & Partner. The installation was based on the appearance of Stonehenge in southern England: 30 three-and-a-half-metre high books were erected in a circle. They symbolised the timeless authority of knowledge in Brockhaus encyclopaedias. Visitors were able to enter the circle from all sides, to the accompaniment of a permanent sound performance. The sounds reach the visitors ears from the various volumes - the world's knowledge made audible.
