Editorial m+a report No. 7 / 06 from Oct 27, 2006

Co-operations seem to be in vogue on the European trade fair scene. Alliances are not only formed between German partners. German companies are increasingly seeking strategic allies throughout Europe to do business together in third countries. Hanover was an early bird in this respect, when they announced their co-operation with Fiera Milano. They are now taking their first steps together in India. Messe Frankfurt, too, has got hitched. They plumped for a partner in Rome to provide some development aid for the new venue there, get a better foothold in Italy and set themselves up to enter the North African Market.
January 1 will see new members joining the EU. Located at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, the trade fair scene in Bulgaria and Romania will enjoy a boost in demand after accession. They are already getting ready - with refurbishments and site expansions. There is more on this in our Focus feature, which in this issue deals with Eastern Europe. It starts on page 46.
Companies make music - to bring, or keep themselves and their customers together. Our live communication special this time delves into this topic, which is still often neglected - especially regarding its use at trade fairs and events. Odd, considering nothing stirs emotions like music. Our special feature starts on page 72.
