Tendency downwards

Criticism is raining down at present on Frankfurt's autumn consumer goods show. Tendence's repositioning in 2003 as "Tendence Lifestyle" has not succeeded in staunching the haemorrhage of exhibitors and attendance. In comparison to 2005 this year's show from August 25 to 29 closed with a drop in attendance of around 6,000 and a six percent decline in the number of exhibiting companies to roughly 3,200. This is forcing Messe Frankfurt to take further action. Following intensive debate between the Tendence Lifestyle exhibitor council and the exhibition company, the partners have agreed that the start of Christmas business in the distributive trade has clearly shifted to the beginning of October. Consequently, traders now need the goods earlier, but suppliers have longer delivery times. Mindful of this, Messe Frankfurt is currently examining the timing of Tendence Lifestyle; there is talk of moving it forward to the summer - not for the first time. In the coming weeks Messe Frankfurt intends to canvas buyers in depth on the issue.
