Editorial m+a report No. 4 / 2006 from June 15, 2006

The German exhibition industry has returned to a growth path. The recovery encompasses almost the entire programme spectrum. For the second time in succession market watchers have registered rising exhibitor numbers, and for the first time attendance is also on the increase. If this trend persists, 2006 may even better 2000, the best year ever for the German exhibition industry. Turn to page 12 for the exact figures.
What would trade fairs be without the press? Fairs and the media need each other. Exhibition novelties and industry news are publicised in appropriate formats, special broadcasts, newspapers and magazines. It also emerges that even the best TV presence cannot entirely replace customer contact. Broadcasters, too, have to acknowledge that personal communication cannot be dispensed with entirely.
Even a company like the shopping channel HSE24 therefore seeks to get up, close and personal. In March it appeared live at a consumer exhibition for the first time – on the one hand to “connect“ and on the other to sound out the potential of the direct approach at a fair. More on how the inseparable team works in our special feature fairs and the media beginning on page 54.
Product piracy at exhibitions is sadly a familiar problem. But very few people are aware that modular exhibition stands, and not only the goods displayed on them, frequently consist of forgeries, too. That can have fatal consequences. The cheaply produced imitations seldom have regard for safety considerations. Our report begins on page 76.
