New meeting for the paper industry

Adforum, Stockholm, and Restec Exhibition Company, St. Petersburg, have announced the first Pulp, Paper and Tissue Exhibition and Conference on the Russian market, to be held in St. Petersburg October 10 to 13, 2006. The International Pulp, Paper & Tissue Forum (IPPTF 2006) organised for suppliers to the global pulp, paper and tissue industry will be held in conjunction with the 8th International Forestry Forum. Alongside the exhibition will be staged an international conference. Adforum also organises in Helsinki every three years the PulPaper, International Exhibition for Suppliers to the Pulp and Paper Industry and in Stockholm the SPCI - World Pulp and Paper Week.
Domestic demand in Russia for packaging in particular is growing at twice the rate of West European demand, and there is clearly huge room for further expansion. The Russian tissue market is romping ahead by some 7.8 %, with greater demand forecast for both toilet tissue and high-quality grades.
But perhaps the most important factor attracting interest from the international pulp and paper industry today, and key to Russia's future role in the global marketplace, is its huge fibre base. The nation is home to the largest softwood reserves in the Northern Hemisphere. Currently it is harvesting less than 20 % of its forest resources.
