Technology makes it possible

LED trucks, beamers and large screens are in demand. Everyone wants a front row seat at the World Cup - if not in the stadium then at least in front of a large screen.

German companies who earn their money with AV technology are currently in heavy demand in Germany. After all, they are the ones providing the technological wherewithal for the numerous events being held to celebrate the World Cup. Whether FIFA or the local pub - everyone has a way of giving their customers or partners an unobstructed view of game.
Some are booked on one site for the entire World Cup; others will be taking roadshows to different locations; still others will be laying on a special event or campaign highlight. Turnover has not increased significantly over pre-World-Cup business even though the competition is only weeks away. "So far we have not noticed any increase in demand. But if other events are anything to go by, we will see it rise again shortly before the event", says Verena Hopp from müllermusic Veranstaltungstechnik, Cologne. Of course, there is increased demand for video walls, big screens, data projectors (beamers) and open-air stages. "We are already noticing bottlenecks." What makes the preparations for the World Cup different, says Hopp, are the very high security standards. For example, surveillance systems are obligatory for all open-air events. müllermusic's main field of activity during the World Cup will be Cologne and environs. For example, the company has been chosen to supply the technical equipment for the VIP lounge of the Brazilian delegation in the open-air section of the German Sports and Olympic Museum in Cologne. The Cologne event technicians will also be providing the technical support for the football festival in Krefeld as a supplier to the agency Floetec. This includes an open-air event taking place for the duration of the World Cup with a VIP tent, open-air stage, big screen and live transmission of all matches. On days without fixtures there will be a full program of artists performances.
Gahrens + Battermann Mediensysteme from Bergisch Gladbach will also tell you that a world event can be very disappointing if the technology is not up to scratch. "Our strength lies in offering a full service. This means advising our customers individually and finding the best solution for them", explains Wolfgang Verza, project consultant at Gahrens + Battermann.
