Inspiration for the creative professions

Photo documentations and knowledge management are the services provided by zellers archiv, which will soon be making image series on exhibitions and outstanding architecture projects available online.

It all began with a collection of over 30,000 photos, when Jürgen Zeller started developing zellers archiv last summer. And then he made the following observations: "The panoply of important events makes it hard for conceptors, art directors and marketing specialists to keep sight of what is going on. Important events often clash with their own project schedules, budgets often prevent them from creating their own overview, or it is not possible to get the entire project team to one place for an event." zellers archiv would like to help overcome these obstacles by documenting important communications events with extensive and detailed photo series which are then opened up to creative professionals in the sector.
Soon a new query tool will be available at www.jvzeller.de. It will primarily be aimed at exhibition organisers, architects, designers, and representatives of allied disciplines and their clients. The focus is on the transfer and management of knowledge concerned with the broad topic of exhibitions.
The archive is divided into the following sections: trade fairs as a communications platform - trade fairs as an experiment in urban living space, exhibition and communications - museum exhibitions, art and culture as providers of impetus, architecture as a bricks-and-mortar expression of societal visions, urban life, the exhibition and specials. The archive does not purport to interest in individual photos but in whole series of photos. Tours with pictures provide users with both a general and detailed view of documented projects. The projects documented are permanent exhibitions, such as the Landesausstellung Baden-Württemberg in the Haus der Geschichte in Stuttgart, temporary exhibitions, such as those in the Kunsthalle Schirn in Frankfurt or the Landesmuseum in Zurich, and photo series providing an overview of the communications measures at large trade fairs such as the IAA in Frankfurt or the CeBIT in Hanover.
The architecture section deals with outstanding buildings such as the Science Centre in Wolfsburg by Zaha Hadid or whole ensembles such as the Weisenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart, the Römerstadt in Frankfurt or works by architect Bruno Taudt in Berlin. Cultural work, primarily light and media art, such as the current Spots installation on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, can also be called up. In the medium term, the plan is for zellers archiv to be an online portal for design with the focus on communications in three dimensions.
A newsletter (to be obtained under newsletter-zellersarchivATjvzeller.de) informs about events and new entries. When collected, the newsletters can be used as a catalogue of the contents of the archive. Excerpts from collections can be ordered on-line for a small fee. Individual searches for specific topics or keywords are possible. Whole collections of topics will also be shipped on CD-ROM. The archive builder, Jürgen Zeller, is also available to give talks.
