A broadened concept with a future

The cooperation between FAMAB and Messe Düsseldorf at the 7th German Event Day opens new prospects for future self-marketing in live communication.

The German Event Day with the ADAM and EVA awards has been an important meeting place for the German trade fair and event scene for the past seven years. The sector event was held for the second time last December in Düsseldorf's Congress Centrum. For Wilhelm Niedergöker, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf, it is good news that the sector association FAMAB has chosen the city on the Rhine as the venue until 2008. This year, the parallel exhibition, EuroExpoEvent, was held for the first time. It was a first for Messe Düsseldorf's EuroShop team. The objective: to combine the experience of FAMAB and the competency of EuroShop to create a joint annual platform for the exhibit building and installation, design, and live marketing sectors. For Complexx, the EuroExpoEvent was primarily a forum for self-marketing. For a while, the visitors crowded three deep around the stand of the Gelsenkirchen trade fair contractors. Every visitor got to design his or her personal T-shirt and see it made on the spot. It was also a fragrant Day. Scents were diffused during the event by et-projekt, The Olfactory, from Hanover as part of an olfactory marketing concept. They demonstrated to guests how the communication of marketing messages can be supported by olfactory concepts. One example of this was the catering appearance of LECA members, where visitors to the Eat & Meet Area were greeted by a fragrance that whetted the appetite and fitted the season. But it would be unfair to the caterers who, as association members, also sponsored the evening with their imaginative delicacies, if all the pleasure were attributed to the olfactory concept. The food, the decoration, and the quality were exceptional. The guests then went into the award ceremony they had so eagerly awaited. The organisers made a good choice by engaging Christián Gálvez as the compere. He hosted the ceremony with wit and humour, keeping everyone entertained for the full three hours.
