More on offer

The IFA World of Consumer Electronics will now take place annually. "It must remain the pacemaker for our industry and an international leader fair. Our sector's growth and innovation dynamic therefore calls for more rigorous development of the successful concept," said Rainer Hecker, chairman of the board of gfu, in explanation of the decision. The gfu entertainment and communication electronics society organises the IFA together with Messe Berlin. Electronics companies in particular are said to have pushed for the change of frequency to limit the number of consumer electronics shows worldwide to one each for Europe, the United States and Asia. Besides the IFA in Berlin these are expositions in Las Vegas and Tokyo. By switching to a one-year cycle, said firms are reportedly also moving to put an end to various in-house exhibitions in the European retail sector. The next date for the leader fair in the CE industry is September 1 to 6, 2006.
Staging the IFA annually sends out a clear message to Hanover in an attempt to staunch the flood of manufacturers of flatscreen TVs, multimedia PCs, hi-fi systems and DVD equipment for whom CeBIT has (thus far) exhibited a magical attraction. But the IFA is not the only show snapping at superlative CeBIT's ankles. Koelnmesse is adding the section Lifestyle Media to its photokina. This encapsulates a new action platform featuring real and forward-looking applications and solutions for the home. The linkage of communication, information and entertainment media is to be introduced and showcased there.
