28.04.2014 - Highlight in Lausanne

The Swiss Tech Convention Center is about to open its doors as one of the most modern and best equipped conference centres in the world. By offering an innovative infrastructure, which allows the most demanding conferences to be hosted, its owner, the EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), is strengthening its position at the centre of European science. The building, financed by two real estate funds of Credit Suisse, and the Quartier Nord, where it is located, was designed and built by HRS Real Estate AG according to plans of the Lausanne architectural firm Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés architectes SA. In collaboration with Romande Energie, a glass façade comprising Grätzel photovoltaic cells has been implemented for the first time in the world. A central feature of the STCC is its great versatility. Its auditorium can be converted in an infinite number of ways. Within just 15 minutes, it can be automatically reconfigured from a 3,000-seat amphitheatre into a banqueting hall of more than 1,800 m². The garden level offers fully modular meeting rooms on 1,500 square metres. The convention centre is fully booked in its first operating year. (ja)
